Almond, Steve. Candyfreak: A Journey Through the Chocolate Underbelly of America

Almond follows his delicious obsession across America, chewing on such weighty matters as product placement, mega-corporations, and the dilemma posed by chocolate-covered coconut as he dips into the stories behind a handful of regional specialties, including Vermont's own Lake Champlain Chocolates. A hip and sometimes flip voice enrobes a sometimes dark and rocky road story.

There are a few hints of the treats awaiting the reader when you look closely at the cover of this book. Check out the title and what each letter resembles. Can this author's name REALLY BE Steve Almond. Chocolate bars have never offered the sense of history that they offer here, nor have they been more appreciated by an author.

The book, Candyfreak, written by Steve Almond was a very interesting book that will never let me thimk so lightly of candy again. He took it through the complicated processes and all of it well, looks a whole lot different. Another thing, I never realized how long some of these candy companies have been around. The best part of the whole book was probably the dark-humor he added with his wry comments. The book is definitely worth reading if you really, really like candy.
